The best travel search engine

We’ve had numerous consultations with friends and family members over the past few weeks as they start to book flights to the wedding. If you have a travel search engine that you love, rock on! If not, keep reading for our unflinching endorsement of Kayak.

Kaya flat-out rocks. It goes out and performs a search on your parameters on numerous different sites (Travelocity, Cheaptickets, etc.) as well as on individual carrier sites (JetBlue, Southwest, etc.) and brings it all into one view. Then once you perform your search, it has the most options and the best flexibility we have experienced in terms of tweaking your parameters, sorting, etc.

So, give it a spin! Just this morning I found direct flights from BWI to Omaha for $229. No that everyone’s flights will be that cheap — but if there’s something good out there, Kayak almost always finds it.

Other useful travel tools include Farecast and TripIt — TripIt in particular we use almost constantly. It’s like having your own travel secretary. You don’t even need to sign up to start — just forward any travel confirmation e-mails to plans@tripit.com.

End of commercial — we now return you to your normal programming.
